TYPEWRITERS 101: GETTING STARTED
If you’ve never used a typewriter before, it can look pretty intimidating! Luckily, your friends from Austin Typewriter, Ink. are here to help you get started and on your way to loving your personal writing machine :)
- Get the manual. Almost every question we get at Austin Typewriter, Ink. can be answered by simply researching online for the user manual and flipping through it. Check out our “Resources” tab for a link to the most famous Typewriter User Guide library online.
- Don’t overpay. A serviced or restored typewriter is expensive because it has been lovingly attended to by people who know what they are doing. But the average thrift store or garage sale find that is sold “As-Is” is hardly worth going into debt over. Often times the word “rare” is overused when advertising typewriters: buy wisely.
- YouTube has typewriter AND cat videos. There are a whole group of people who love filming their typewriters in action and chances are good that yours is there too! Search for your brand and see what comes up. *Note: Unless you trust the source, it’s best to avoid repair and/or cleaning tutorials. Trust us :-/
