A style of typewriter emerged in Germany following the close of WW2 that could do double duty as both an Office and as a Portable. The Alpina SK24 was one. Voss ST24 was another. Like the Alpina, the Voss was a large machine for a portable, but smaller than a standard office desktop machine. The later 24 series, such as this one, sported a clamshell body that could be easily removed without tools to access the inner workings for maintenance.
Voss typewriters are fairly common in Germany, but they never gained that degree of popularity here in the U.S. and were only imported in relatively small numbers. Sought after by collectors for their sleekly feminine curves and innovative features and admired by users for their fine touch and solid performance, Voss machines in excellent condition often can fetch a premium. I acquired this machine from my friend, Barbara DeMarco-Barrett and it holds a high place on my short list of favorite machines.” ~ Glen
